Changes to superyacht laws in Spain

Superyachts, or yachts longer than 24 metres are becoming increasingly prevalent in the luxury yachting world, with high profile members of society such as Bill Gates and Roman Abramovich partaking in the trend. However, until recently under Spanish law these vessels have fallen into a grey area, with unclear rules on their licensing and regulation.

In addition, with the new SOLAS convention international ruling on recreational vessels, created a great deal of a great deal of uncertainty over rules for captaining mega yachts, or any vessel over 24 metres long. This is because it made a distinction between boats and ships, with the former being legally defined as being less than 24 metres long, with a gross tonnage (gt) of less than 3000gt. Under this system, superyachts would be classified as ships, and therefore be subject to the stricter rules governing these.

Delhi: The Greening of India’s Capital City

Have a day or two in the city? Check out how Delhi has successfully reconstructed nature at one of its sprawling biodiversity parks.

India’s capital city has a luscious little secret — it’s greener than it seems. The noise is big, the crowds are bigger, and crossing the road is downright terrifying. But concrete, dust, and traffic aside, Delhi has something for nature lovers, too. Nearly 10% of the city is covered in parks and gardens — paradoxical emerald jewels brightening Delhi’s smog-induced monochromatism. Spanning the gamut from manicured to wild, they are nothing short of necessary for a city deemed one of the world’s most polluted. The most prolific of the bunch are Delhi’s biodiversity parks — formerly barren plots restored to native habitats, some hundreds of acres in size and home to free-ranging fauna such as jungle cats, civets, and jackals.

Who is Elmer Wheeler … and how can he boost your response rate?
By John Wood, AWAI Staff Copywriter

“Don’t sell the steak, sell the sizzle.”

That just might be the most famous piece of sales advice ever. And as a copywriter, knowing the real meaning behind those words can transform your writing – and your career.

I often wondered who came up with such a great line. Until about a week ago, I still didn’t know …

I was reading Joe Vitale’s latest book, Buying Trances. In it, he mentions Elmer Wheeler as its originator.

Who’s “Elmer Wheeler”?

Break Free from the Chains of Isolation:
How to Live the Full Writer’s Life
By Steve Roller

The picture of the guy at the beach, enjoying a carefree day of casual writing under the umbrella, piña colada in hand?

It’s the classic image of The Writer’s Life, and a fitting one at that.

Well, I’m here to tell you that’s not just a cliché. Since becoming a full-time copywriter almost two years ago, I’ve actually done the sitting-under-the-coconut-palm thing.

How to Write Well: The World’s Simplest Formula

How to Write Well:
The World’s Simplest Formula
By Michael Masterson

My income is based almost entirely on writing. And it has given me a very rich life – rich in every sense of the word. It can do the same for you.

I spend half of my working time coaching writers on how to write better. I spend the other half writing memos.

My memos are almost entirely persuasive: their object is to encourage my clients to make business and marketing decisions that will make them more profitable. If I fail to persuade them then my ideas don’t get tested. If they don’t get tested, then I can’t help them make money. If I can’t help them make money, they will stop paying me. To date I have never lost a client. (Knock on wood.) I attribute my track record to the persuasiveness of my memos.

Marketing, It’s Complicated – Direct Marketing News

Marketing, It’s Complicated

Three quarters of digital marketers say their job has become more complicated. The other 25% must be whiz kids.

Terabytes of data; channel options, integration, and attribution; nonstop technology advances. Oh, and ever-changing customer behaviors and expectations. To say that marketing has become complex is certainly an understatement. In fact, 75% of digital marketers surveyed say their job has become more complicated, according to a study by Marin Software. Twenty percent say their job hasn’t really changed—despite all the change going on around them. And 5% say their job has gotten easier. I’m not sure how, but OK, if they say so. (Awesome staff and technology, perhaps?)
